PSAI Training Programs

All PSAI training is performanced based. Whatever depth rating it says on your card, you will have been there during the course, with your instructor, making sure that the skills you have learned are up to that depth.

Nitrox

This is an entry level certification course for recreational and entry level technical divers wishing to utilise enriched air nitrox to a maximum of 40% Oxygen content (EAN40) as a breathing gas to the limit of their diving qualification or 130 feet, whichever is shallower. There are no decompression diving elements to this course. Safety stops as required by the chosen monitoring method, to a maximum of 3 minutes, are allowed.

Twin Set Diving

This course is really aimed to de-mystify the use of twin sets and give you sound advice on the purchase, setup and use of the twin set which so often labels the user as a technical diver.

Your instructor will take you diving and introduce you to skills such as advanced buoyancy techniques and streamlining.

Advanced Nitrox

This course examines the use of EAN21 (Air) through EAN100 (Oxygen) for optimal mixes to a maximum depth of 150 feet. Within this course you also examine the use of nitrox for staged and accelerated decompression when performing decompression dives.

Deep Diving & Narcosis Management - Deep Air Diving

This course is made up of six levels (I - VI) and is designed to progressivel increase the students ability to perform skills at depth safely. ONLY PSAI qualified Deep Diving & Narcosis Management Professionals may teach up to level V (200 feet). Further qualification is designed to enable diving where helium may not be available or only air diving is recognized by local or national law. Level V (200 feet) is the published maximum depth for non HQ based courses. Level VI may only be taught at PSAI HQ by HQ staff only.

Extended Range Nitrox

This course provides the training and experience required for dives up to 180 feet that require staged decompression, utilising nitrox mixtures or oxygen during decompression. There is also an introduction to the use of Helium although the student will not be qualified to use Helium. This course may precede or be combined with Trimix Level 2 as a direct entry where there is documented proof of experience of Extended Range Nitrox Diving. This course may be undertaken in the equipment of choice based on prior qualification.

Overhead - Cavern / Cave

There are three levels as per established cave training programmes covering Cavern (daylight zone), Introductory Cave Diving (Limited penetration) and Cave Diving (full cave penetration) These courses limit the student to 130 feet and air use only until additional Trimix levels are undertaken and the Professional has assessed the documented experience of the student.

Semi-Closed Circuit Rebreather     (Drager Dolphin)

This course is for divers wishing to utilise enriched air nitrox (EANx) in a semi-closed circuit rebreather to a maximum depth of 130 feet. A nitrox course can be taught in conjunction with this course if this is to be the students preferred method of diving. If the student wishes to conduct decompression diving then the Advanced Nitrox course or equivalent must be undertaken.
